Dr. Joshua Hoffman is a tenured American author and philosopher at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Dr. Hoffman's primary contributions to the fields of philosophy and rational theology include a number of written works exploring the history of philosophy, metaphysics, and the divine attributes of natural theology. In recent years, Dr. Hoffman and his contemporary Dr. Gary Rosenkrantz have gained national renown for the Hoffman-Rosenkrantz Theory of Substance as outlined in their book Substance: Its Nature and Existence.

Dr. Hoffman graduated from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut in 1967. He continued on to graduate with a PhD from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts in 1972. After working for seven years as an assistant professor at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Dr. Hoffman was awarded permanent tenure in 1980. He served as the head of the philosophy department from 1992 to 2000.[1]
